Seriously, how much better would your day be if your coffee loved you back? The answer is: AMA-ZING! (Zing. Because it’s caffeinated. Get it?) =P
This beginner friendly crochet pattern is in two parts:
the body of the cozy (which can be left plain, or jazzed up with any appliques you want!) & the heart applique, which can be used on a variety of other things, as well!
The cozy itself is approximately 8″ around and 3.5″ high when finished, big enough for a travel coffee cup, or even a cup of iced tea or water!
worsted weight yarn (acrylic or cotton)
crochet hook (4-5mm)
stitch marker (bobby pin, yarn scrap, anything will do)
scissors, tapestry needle for sewing & weaving in ends
Stitches You’ll Need to Know (all are shown in video demonstration)
hdc-half double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
Chain 32-34 (depending on your tension). Slip stitch into first chain to complete the circle, making sure not to twist the chain.
Row 1: SC into 1st chain, place marker in it. *Ch 1, skip a stitch, SC into next stitch. Repeat from * to end of round. Ch 1.
Row 2: SC into 1st ch1 space from previous round. Move stitch marker to this stitch. *Ch1, skip a stitch, SC into next ch1 space. Repeat from * to end of round.
Row 3-14: Repeat row 2, moving stitch marker to new first stitch with each new round created.
Slip stitch into next ch 1 space. Cut yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Make a magic ring.
Row 1: Ch 2. 3 treble crochet into center of mr. 2dc, ch 1, 2dc. 3 tr. Ch 2, slip stitch into center of magic ring. Tug your yarn tail until the magic ring cinches shut, creating your heart shape!
Row 2: SC in top of beginning ch2 from previous round. 2hdc into first stitch, 3 hdc into next, 2 hdc into next, 3 hdc into next, 2 hdc into next. In ch1 space from previous round: hdc, dc, hdc. 2hdc in next stitch, 3hdc in next, 2hdc in next, 3hdc in next, 2hdc in last stitch. Ch 1 & slip stitch into 2nd chain of final ch2 from previous round.
Cut yarn, leaving an 8-10″ tail for sewing applique onto body of coffee cozy. Secure and weave in end from creating magic ring.
Sew applique into desired position on the cozy, weave in the final end, and you’re done!
